Honolulu International Airport was opened in March 1927. It was originally name John Rodgers Airport after the World War 1 naval officer John Rodgers. Renamed Honolulu Airport in 1947 and International was added in 1951.
The airport covers 4,520 acres and is located 10 miles north of Waikiki. It has 4 active runways, including a 12,000ft reef runway. 27 international/domestic carriers, 3 interisland and 4 commuter airlines utilise Honolulu International Airport.
Over 20 million visitors pass through the gates each year.
HOW DO I GET TO HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
BY CAR – From Waikiki
Take Ala Wai Boulevarde and Mc Cully Street to I-H-1W. Follow I-H-1W to your destination. (9 miles/nineteen minutes).
THE BUS – From Waikiki
From Kuhio Avenue and Seaside Avenue catch The Bus #42 towards EWA BEACH via Arizona Memorial. Alight at Nimitz and opposite Rodgers Boulevarde and walk around one minute to the airport.
(One hour and five minutes).
