Maui has several museums offering visitors the chance to learn about Hawaiian history and culture

ON THE NORTH SHORE OF MAUI

 

BAILEY HOUSE MUSEUM

Bailey House Museum is housed in an 1833 mission home exhibiting Hawaiian artifacts, a native garden, a research library and a gift shop.

HOW DO YOU GET TO BAILEY HOUSE MUSEUM – By car from Lahaina –

Head north west on Front Street towards Baker Street.  Turn right onto Kenui Street.  Turn right onto HI-30E.  Turn left onto Main Street

(22 miles/Thirty seven minutes)

Alexander and Baldwin Sugar Museum is located next to Hawaii’s largest working sugar factory.  The museum is dedicated to preserving and presenting the heritage and history of Maui’s sugar industry.

HOW DO YOU GET TO ALEXANDER & BALDWIN SUGAR MUSEUM – By car – from Lahaina.

Head northwest on Front Street towards Baker Street,  Turn right onto Kenui Street. Turn right onto HI-30E.  Turn right onto HI-380.  Turn right onto HI-311 S/S Puunene Avenue,  Turn left onto Hansen Road.

(22.9 miles/Thirty nine minutes).

Lahaina Heritage Museum offers visitors a comprehensive and interactive look at the history of Lahaina from pre-contact Hawaii to the Monarchy era.

 

HALE PA’I  PRINTING MUSEUM

The Hale Pa’i Printing Museum houses classic 1838 works of ancient Hawaiian history and traditions.

The Hawaiian kingdoms first paper currency and manuscripts are also on display.

 

WHALERS VILLAGE MUSEUM

NOTE:  MUSEUM IS CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS AND WILL RE-OPEN FALL 2016

The Whalers Village Museum houses one of the largest collections of drawings (scrimshaws) carved on whale teeth.

Here you can learn about the life of the whaler in the 19th century.
