WEST MAUI

 

 KA’ANAPALI BEACH

Ka’anapali Beach is a 1.5 mile sandy beach right in the heart of the Whalers Shopping Center.

Popular activities include –

  • Parasailing
  • Sailing
  • Volleyball
  • Surfing
  • Snorkeling
  • Watching the cliff diving ceremony daily at sunset

Facilities include –

  • Hotel accommodation
  • Lifeguard on duty 8am to 4pm
  • Public restrooms
  • Showers

 

NAPILI BAY

Napili Bay is located Kahana and Kapalua next to Napili Kai Resort in Lahaina.

This beach is suitable for families because it has gentle surf conditions.

Popular activities include –

  • Snorkeling
  • Stand up paddleboarding
  • Watching the sunset
  • Exploring the coral reef

Facilities include-

  • Street car parking

No lifeguards or restrooms

 

KAHEKILI BEACH

Kahekili Beach is located next to  Ka’anapali Beach.

It is not suitable for swimming because of hidden rocks and currents.

Popular activities include –

  • Snorkeling
  • Scuba

Facilities include –

  • Showers
  • Restrooms
  • Covered picnic areas

NO lifeguards

 

NORTHWEST MAUI

 

KAPALUA BEACH

Kapalua Beach is situated only minutes away for Lahaina Town.

This beach is suitable for families with small children.

Popular activities include —

  • Swimming
  • Snorkeling – parrot fish, butterfly fish, scorpion fish and green sea turtles
  • Exploring natural tidal pools
  • Whale watching during Winter months

Facilities include –

  • Beach activities desk hiring watersport equipment
  • Public restrooms
  • Showers

Close to shops, dining and hotels

 

DT FLEMING BEACH

DT Fleming Beach is located in Kapalua, east of Slaughterhouse Beach and Mokule’ia.(next to Kapalua Resort).

This beach is popular with surfers and bodyboarders in Winter due to the large swells.

Popular activites include –

  • Swimming – beware of strong rip currents
  • Surfing

NORTH MAUI

 

BALDWIN BEACH

Baldwin Beach is situated 2 miles before Paia Town.

Look out for the baseball diamond, field and yellow lifeguard tower.

This beach is a good family beach.

  • Bodyboarding
  • Skim boarding
  • Sunbathing

 

The West end of Baldwin Beach is known as Baby Beach.  It has a sheltered saltwater pool and is great for kids.

The East end of Baldwin Beach is known as the Cove.

  • Picnicking and barbeques

Facilities include –

  • Picnic areas and barbeques
  • Public restrooms
  • Showers

Lifeguard on duty from 8am to 4pm

 

SOUTH MAUI

 

KEAWAKAPU BEACH

Keawakapu Beach is a golden sand between situated between Wailea and Kihei.

Popular activities include –

  • Swimming
  • Sunrise yoga
  • Snorkeling the underwater reef
  • Watching humpback whales in Winter
  • Walking the Wailea Beach Trail

Facilities include –

  • Portable toilets
  • Outdoor showers
  • Parking

Close to restaurants and hotels

 

MAKENA BEACH STATE PARK

Makena Beach is also known as Big Beach and Oneloa Beach.  It is the most photographed beach in Hawaii and is located south of Wailea.

Popular activities include –

  • Swimming (Be aware of unpredictable and dangerous waves)
  • Bodyboarding
  • Skimboarding
  • Weddings
  • Not suitable for snorkeling because of the lack of fish and sandy bottom
  • Whale watching in Winter

Facilities include –

  • Porta potties
  • Picnic facilities

Lifeguard on duty 8am to 4pm

 

LITTLE BEACH

You can access Little Beach via Big Beach (Makena Beach).  Walk to the north end of Big Beach and make your way along the trail across the rocky outcrop made of old lava.

Popular activities include –

  • Nude sunbathing
  • Swimming (conditions calmest mid morning)
  • Boogie boarding
  • Surfing
  • Drum circle and fire dancing on Sunday afternoon and into the evening

EAST MAUI

 

 KOKI BEACH

You can find Koki Beach just past the Hana Ranch when you are driving from Kipahulu to Hana.

Turn left at the Koki Beach and Hamoa Bay sign, follow the road to the end.

Koki Beach is said to be the most beautiful beach on Maui.  The dark red sand is produced by the nearby cinder cone of K Iwi O Pele also known as the bones of Pele.

Popular activities include –

  • Swimming in Summer (beware of rip currents and high waves)
  • Surfing for experienced surfers only in Winter (a favourite spot for local surfers)
  • Sunbathing

Facilities include –

  • BBQ grill
  • Parking lot

NO public restrooms, showers or lifeguards

HAMOA BEACH

For better swimming conditions head to HAMOA BEACH around ½ mile past mile marker 51 along Highway 31.

Popular activities include –

  • Swimming
  • Bodysurfing
  • Snorkeling
  • Surfing

Facilities include –

  • Shaded areas for family picnics
  • Fresh water shower
